Monica earned her Diploma in Medicine in Romania in 1995 before moving to Australia, where she pursued further studies and advanced training. In 2015, she was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Throughout her career, Monica has worked in a diverse range of healthcare settings, including tertiary and teaching hospitals, regional and rural facilities, and remote clinics. She has extensive experience in managing patients with cancers across all tumour streams.
Monica has been a key member of multidisciplinary teams, contributing her medical oncology expertise to shape individualised treatment plans. In her pursuit of providing the highest standard of care, she actively engages in clinical trials, offering her patients access to new therapies that may improve their outcomes. Her meticulous nature ensures that safety and quality are always prioritised.
Monica is deeply empathetic, understanding the unique biopsychosocial needs of her patients and their families. She empowers her patients to participate in their care, providing clear communication and ongoing updates regarding their treatment and condition. Her diligence and thoroughness have earned her a reputation as a highly competent and caring oncologist.
Monica has co-authored several research papers on chemotherapy, neuroendocrine tumours, and clinical trial observational studies. She also provides training to registrars, junior doctors, and advanced oncology trainees, while also contributing to educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing students. Passionate about ongoing professional development, Monica regularly shares her expertise by presenting updates on emerging oncology evidence to the medical community.
Outside of work, Monica embraces a love for the great outdoors, going on hikes in the mountains and snorkelling. She has a great appreciation for history, English literature and is an avid reader.

Dr Paul Kalokerinos is a Medical Oncologist with extensive experience throughout the major cancer centres of South East Queensland. He delivers high-level, evidencebased cancer treatment at Mater Cancer Care Centre and Mater Private Hospital Redland.
Dr Kalokerinos’ training involved treating large numbers of patients in cancer units throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast regions. He has extensive experience in caring for patients with a wide range of cancer subtypes, both common and rare and has been exposed to the most advanced cancer treatments through his work with patients enrolled in clinical trials. Prior to completing his training in Queensland, he worked in the United Kingdom at well recognised centres including The Royal Free and Kings College hospitals.
Dr Kalokerinos is committed to staying at the forefront of international developments. He firmly believes that the open communication and active involvement of patients in their management plans is essential to providing optimal care. He also recognises the necessity of integrating other health care professionals, specialists, and general practitioners into the long-term oncological plans of newly diagnosed cancer patients. The application of these important principles to each individual case enables Dr Kalokerinos to adhere to his philosophy of treating the patient and not just the disease
