Debra commenced at Montserrat in October 2017, bring over 35 years’ experience as an Registered Nurse, primarily in the Peri-Operative environment. She commenced in the operating theatres upon finishing her general training and became an experienced scrub/scout in a wide range of specialties as well as perioperative management. Her interest in nursing education led to her becoming a perioperative nurse educator, successfully writing and implementing an accredited 12 month novice perioperative nurse graduate program. Throughout these years Debra also gained experience in nursing administration in a major tertiary hospital setting.
From nursing education, Debra moved into Risk and Quality Management spending three years driving this service at a major Brisbane tertiary facility. She left the hospital setting in the early 2000’s spending three years as a Medico Legal Risk Manager. Returning to the clinical setting the next 8 years were spent managing multi-specialty day hospitals and at the end of 2014 Debra took a break from full time work and used her experiences to move into auditing of hospital and health services.
Complementing her enthusiasm for education, risk and quality and the delivery of safe and effective patient care and outcomes she brings to Montserrat a wealth of experience complemented by her formal qualifications. She has been the Vice President of the Australian Day Hospital Association (now Day Hospitals Australia) and also spent many years on the Executive of Day Surgery Nurses Association Queensland.
